This was a powerful testimony Stuart… perhaps the best I have heard for some time. Your description of “the journey” of the straight gate and narrow way vs instant salvation and the “one and done” mentality was so powerful I was moved to humility and prayer. I am thankful for your efforts (and Larry’s). You still have a powerful voice, and after listening for so long I know that “powerful voice” is a blessing to glorify our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, Son of God, Son of Man, the Word made flesh, the Holy One of Israel, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world… the One who calls us friend. The One who came willingly, and gave himself… even unto death, for sinners like us, who love Him.
No doubt, no doubt, Charlie Kirk is, and was, from the day of his assassination, in danger of becoming an idol to those who admired him. Martyrs always are. As much as we would like to elevate him above his status out of respect for the admirable life he led, we must always be cognizant of our instinctual tendency to revere any person other than Christ Himself. In like manner, when we find ourselves in the presence of a person whom we perceive to be “holy,” too quickly can we come to idolize them; forgetting that what shines forth so brightly from their person is the spirit and character of Christ, not that of the man himself. It is a pitfall we will encounter and must admonish ourselves about.
I do agree with you Stewart. Something is very unusual and unsettling about this whole Charlie Kirk murder. It just doesn’t feel right somehow. Thank you for taking your Sunday mornings to talk to us.
